Payet scores decisive goal, assists for Marseille against Lille in Ligue 1 match
Marseille's Payet scored the only goal of the game to secure all three points as his team defeated Lille 2-0 in their latest Ligue 1 clash.
The Algerian international, who has been in great form this season, netted with a powerful header from close range after just four minutes into the second half.
He then set up the second goal for his teammates as he found the back of the net again shortly before half-time.
The win moves Marseille up to sixth place in the table and leaves them just two points behind leaders Nice.
Lille, meanwhile, remain in eighth place despite the defeat.
Despite being outplayed by their opponents, Lille did manage to create some chances in the first half through the impressive play of midfielder Amine Gouiri.
However, it was Payet who was responsible for securing victory for Marseille with his late strike.
The result will be welcomed by the club's supporters who have endured a difficult run of form recently.
With the likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Antoine Griezmann unavailable due to injury, Payet has stepped up to the plate and become a key player for the side.
His performances have not gone unnoticed, with him named in the starting lineup for France's upcoming Euro 2020 qualifier against Ukraine.
For now, though, Payet will focus on helping Marseille continue their winning ways as they look to maintain their position in the top six.
