Lille, France, is on fire with its hot form after beating Strasbourg 3-1 in the first leg of their Ligue 1 round 21 fixture.
The French champions have been in top form this season and it was no surprise that they were able to claim victory over the visitors in front of a packed Stade de France crowd.
In the opening half-hour, Jonathan David scored his first goal for Lille, setting up his second-half opener for teammate Benjamin Pavard, who also netted his first Ligue 1 goal against Strasbourg.
David's goal came just moments before halftime, following a brilliant pass from striker Antoine Griezmann, who then converted it into an own goal by Strasbourg defender Benoit Toulalan.
After the break, Lille continued to dominate the game and managed to score twice more, with David again converting one of them to make it 4-1 at the break.
Strasbourg had fought back strongly but could not recover from the deficit and lost 3-1 in extra time, leaving Lille with a comfortable win and a commanding lead in the table.
In the end, it was clear that Lille's hot form has carried them through to the quarter-finals of the Ligue 1 tournament, while Strasbourg will be looking forward to their next challenge in the Champions League next month.
Overall, it was another impressive display from Lille's players and it was evident that they have a lot of talent and potential ahead of the season. With their current form, it's hard to see how they can lose any games in the upcoming matches.
